planning trip in bavaria

hihi friends we are a group of 4 flying to munich on the first week of april and planning to rent a car as we usually dont travel very light i am afraid . my questions are

we will be renting a 4 w drive car . will we also need winter tires they seem to have them as extra option . what will the weather be like ? we dont mind the cold but sunshine would be nice for views and pictures on the mountains. also what time does it get dark at that time of year?

we will be ther over catholic easter weekend. will it be hard driving from rothenburg to oberammergau as planned or we should change plans and stay put? will sights be closed on that weekend?

the general plan is munich to rothenburg(1 night) then to oberammergau (3 nights to do ggarmisch ,zugspitze, wieskirche, linderhof, ettal and neuswanstein) then to berchtesgaden (2 nights to see konigsee, the salt mines and a day trip to saltzburg)

and then on to munich where we drop the car and stay 3 more days if you have any suggestions for improvement pls let me know thanks in advance

Your itinerary sounds all right to me. The distances you cover are not oo big, thus not too much time lost on the roads. Don%26#39;t try to squeeze more destinations in, though, although others here will come up with the most tempting suggestions. This is enough to fill the time you have.

What will the weather be like? Impossible to predict. Absolutely impossible. Everybody hopes for sunshine at Easter... Weather forecasts are not reliable until maybe 3 days in advance. Prepare for a mix of everything, and don%26#39;t forget rain gear.

Winter tyres - tricky question. You are not going high up into the mountains so chances are good you won%26#39;t need them in early April. On the other hand, there is no guarantee and snow may still occur in April.

Expect everything to be very crowded at Easter in those popular travel and day trip destinations. Book accommodation well in advance, and book your Neuschwanstein tickets well in advance. I%26#39;d expect most sights to be open during the holidays but better check individually on the resp. websites.

Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday are public holidays, which means most shops are closed. If you plans include shopping, adjust them to this.

As BlandineForberg said, you%26#39;re already doing a lot, and you have little time to squeeze other things in. However, if you drive the A7 autobahn between Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Fuessen, it%26#39;s well worth your time to make two short stops, one at Ulm for the church with the world%26#39;s tallest steeple (climbable if desired), and at the church at Ottobeuren monastery which is jam packed full of more beautiful Baroque religious items than can easily be comprehended. Also, when returning from Berchtesgaden to Munich, consider stopping at Herrenchiemsee, Ludwig II%26#39;s version of Versailles, on an island of that name in the Chiemsee. Then it%26#39;s possible to visit four of the palaces associated with him: Neuschwanstein, Hohenschwangau where the family actually lived, Linderhof, and Herrenchiemsee.

And it%26#39;s probably worth the few minutes and the few meters to visit St. Coloman church in Schwangau as you will be driving right past it and it is a better rated attraction than the Wieskirche.
