Hello, my husband is in Iraq on duty, and going to be taking his R%26amp;R in March. He was at first told he only needed his active order papers and no passport, now he is told different and we have flights to Frankfurt and wanting to do some travel of Europe. Any ideas or knowledge of what we can do is helpful. Also, I have heard from one person that we may not be able to travel by train, but by air to other countries. Does anyone know if air travel is similar to the train system, in that it%26#39;s everywhere.
Thanks again

Your best bet for the most accurate information is to get in touch with the State Dept. or call the consulate in Frankfurt or the embassy in Berlin to see what they have to say. I would not rely on info from a forum like this for international travel problems. Nor on information that you %26quot;heard%26quot; from one person.
The good news is that this can sometimes be expedited. I got my last passport in 2 weeks, but I already had one before. A new one could be different.

This will certainly not depend on the means of transport but rather on the countries. Actually on the trains the chance that your ID papers are checked (but you must have one) when crossing borders is much less than when flying as you%26#39;ll have to show ID there for security reasons always.
I%26#39;m pretty sure that for Germany this will be sufficient if Germany is on the order papers. For traveling as a tourist to other countries he must use a normal passport.

11 days in Germany only is however not the end of the world.
Most advanced nature (spring) in March:
south of Frankfurt: Bergstrasse, Upper Rhine Valley

Always interesting: Berlin (allow at least 3-4 days)
