teenagers shopping in Berlin

Hi - we%26#39;re staying in Kreuzberg and are coming with two 15 year old girls who are keen to do some shopping - not department stores, more cheapish trendy small shops - it%26#39;ll be more looking than shopping given the exchange rate. Also, the rest of us (two women and an 11 year old boy) really don%26#39;t want to do any shopping so a nice cafe or something else to do nearby would be great - don%26#39;t want to let the girls go too far away - not that streetwise yet!

Any thoughts?

Thanks

e.g. Schönhauser Allee in Prenzlauer Berg

In Kreuzberg, there%26#39;s a lot of shopping/cafes of the type you%26#39;ve described in and around Bergmannstrasse (U Bahn Gneisenaustrasse).

You could (should) also go to the Simon Dach Strasse area in Friedrichshain, lots of boutiques and cafes there.

I know you don%26#39;t want department stores and possibly not shopping centres really but Potsdamer Arkaden (at Potsdamer Platz) is a smaller shopping centre with a nice variety of shops (more varied than Schönhauser Arkaden and not as hige as Alexa).

It%26#39;s on 3 levels and manageable size with nice cafes on top level (the Viennese Cafe has the most fantastic apple strudel served with fresh fruit)

I%26#39;ve taken a couple of school-groups to theArkaden after sightseeing in the area; one was a group of 15-16 year old girls, and it went down very well.

Very close by is the Kohlhoff Tower %26quot;skyscraper%26quot; with viewing point %26quot;Panoramapunkt%26quot; at Potsdamer Platz 1. You go up in Europ%26#39;s fastest lift and views over central Berlin are very good and there are photos of how the area developed from no-man%26#39;s land to what it is now. That%26#39;d be something for the 3 of you as well as sitting in a cafe.
