cologne to strasbourg by train and boat

Hi we will be arriving in Cologne and would like to travel downthe Rhine visiting all the best sights until we get to Strasbourg. We would like to go to Heidelberg too. We fly back from Frankfurt. Is this possible using trains and boats or would it be better to hire a car? Any help would be appreciated.

Mo-Fr: from 9am till 3am next day

Sa,Su: from midnight till 3am next day

With a valid train ticket (e.g. the Rhineland-Palatinate Ticket) you%26#39;ll get a 20% discount on the KD boats fare.

From Kehl (across the Rhine from Strasbourg) to Heidelberg you can use the similar Baden-Württemberg Ticket. EUR 28,00. Otherwise the same conditions.

Thanks for your help. It%26#39;s great. We have 6 days after Cologne. Where should we stay ? We fly back from Frankfurt and think we will use the train and boats. We definitly want to see Heidelberg and Strasbourg and anywhere else you can recommend en route.

I%26#39;ve already suggest some places (Middle Rhine Valley - Mainz - Speyer). With 6 days you could also consider Cologne - Trier - Moselle Valley - Middle Rhine Valley ... Strasbourg - Baden-Baden - Heidelberg
