How is the best way to travel from Passau to Prague? We will be departing from a river cruise in Passau and plan to go to Prague for three days before flying back to the US. There seems to be no direct train route. Is bus transportation a better way to go?

This must not mean that they have the license to offer this service into the opposite direction.
Here the border crossing on the shortest route:
bayerwald.net/tirsys_bilder/grenzuebergangha…
Problem: only open to pedestrians and cyclists. No cars. No buses. No trains. The rails had been dismantled anyway decades ago on the German side. On the Czech side they still exist and are even served. Here an older photo of this station

In principle you can take a bus from Passau to Haidmühle. Walk across the border (1,7 km) and use the trains from the station Nové Údoli onwards. No major line (you can guess this easily from the photo) and would need a couple of changes till Prague.
The closest open railroad crossing is at Bayerisch Eisenstein.

From: Passau
To: Prague
1. Buy a Bavaria-Bohemia Ticket. EUR 32,00 for 2-5 persons traveling together. This ticket covers all regional trains in Bavaria and the Bavarian/Bohemian border region. It%26#39;s valid
Mo-Fr from 9am till 3am next day
Sa,Su from midnight till 3am next day
This ticket covers the trip till Plzen/Pilsen.
Far distance trains like ICE or IC/EC are not covered, but the faster connections are anyway by regional trains only.
2. Buy normal tickets from Plzen/Pilsen to Prague.
CZK 145 (~ EUR 6) per person. Minus group discount

If you have to change in Plzen/Pilsen buy it there at the station. If it%26#39;s a through train to Prague buy it from the Czech conductor on board (will add a small service fee).

Dear Mickey,
What did you end up doing? We are planning the same itinerary for our trip in October.
Your suggestions will be GREATLY appreciated!

We struggled with the same itinerary back in December. We first tried to travel to Cesky Krumlov for a day and then on to Prague but that didn%26#39;t work. We found the best route to be Passau to Regensburg change there and then on to Prague. Seems it was around €120 each and it takes most of the day but an earlier arrival than a change in Platting. The trip from Regensburg is a bit slow and bumpy but we couldn%26#39;t find anything better.
Be sure to spend some time in Passau, there is much to see there.
