For some reason, I%26#39;m thinking the middle of the city is near Marienplatz and Alstadt...is this correct? I%26#39;ve been looking for hotels in this area but have been unable to find anything. (We are looking for something with free breakfast under $150). This is probably next to impossible to find, but does anyone know of any decently priced hotels or B%26amp;Bs in this area?

middle of the city = Marienplatz = Altstadt = historic city centre

At the risk of being repetitive:
Mercure Hotel Muenchen Altstadt (3 star, very near Marienplatz=historic city centre)
Flag H in map above
120€ per night INCLUDING breakfast (rate: 2 nights getaway) for a stay June 4th to 8th = ca. 153 USD, i.e. 3 bucks above your limit, but who knows where the €/$ exchange rate will head...
Hotterstrasse 4

I don%26#39;t think you will get better value than that anywhere near Marienplatz.
You could try the Blauer Bock (ideal location directly at Viktualienmarkt, near Marienplatz):
Hotel Blauer Bock
Sebastiansplatz 9
80331 Muenchen
Telephone +49 89 23 17 80
Fax +49 89 23 17 82 00

double room including breakfast from 100€ to 118€, but the only credit card they accept is American Express.

We much like the Hotel Blauer Bock already mentioned. Good breakfast, nice folks. It is an older but well maintained hotel. Great location.

We are definitely considering the Hotel Blauer Bock. I have looked at the Mercure Hotel Muenchen Alstadt, but it is coming up 128 euros or 114 euros a night, depending on our cancellation rate. This is also without breakfast. It says that breakfast is 15 euros extra per person per day. This increases the rate to 144 euros or 158 euros for the two of us, if we include breakfast...so that is definitely out of our price range, unfortunately. We%26#39;re not completely crossing it off our list, but we feel it might be possible to find something in the area a little cheaper than that....
We also found Hotel am Viktualienmarkt - do you know anything about that hotel?
