Looking for the best places to see in Europe. Starting in Amsterdam in mid March for two weeks. Will be driving. Considering Paris ,Brussels Luxembourg,Milan,Vienna,Geneva, ending up in Amsterdam. We are a couple in our early 40%26#39;s we don%26#39;t mind driving and want to see as much as we can. We will rest when we get home.Enjoy unique old cobblestone street paces by day and party by night.
Thanks for your time,
Susan

Off your path but Venice and Florence would be good places to visit in the off season. I would choose Salzburg over Vienna and everyone should see the Matterhorn once in their life.

this sounds like a blast! i could totally identify with your pace and your activities!
i do not know if Luxembourg is such a must, once you leave Brussels and head down to Switzerland, you should at least take a glimpse at the Middle Rhine Valley and/or Cologne

also, on the way down to Switzerland, you could visit the black forest and the Lake Constance!
have fun - tom

How about:
Amsterdam-Cologne(Rhine Valley)-Brussels-Paris-Lucerne (not Geneva)-Rothenburg am Tauber-Bruges-Amsterdam.
Of course, in two weeks, that%26#39;s over the top, but if you like to breeze through a lot of places, at least all these are attractive, most with the cobblestones, etc., I don%26#39;t see how Milan or especially Vienna could be added in the time you have, but then, if driving and one night per city is your thing, you could probably add them. You%26#39;ll see a lot of road.

Well, if you want old cobblestone street places by day, go to some of the smaller towns which have well preserved medieval centers. Consider places like Salzburg, Tuebingen, Freiburg, Bamberg, Regensburg which are fairly small yet large enough to possibly offer some kind of nightlife.
I%26#39;ve driven in several of the places you mentioned and didn%26#39;t find it pleasant, and in the case of Vienna a nightmare (a literal maze of one way streets in the old town center, and only one possible route in to your destination before you were forced out, had to make a large circle, and try again). If all you want to do is visit larger cities, take the train. Public transportation is usually excellent in and around them. A car is excellent for visiting the numerous excellent sights in smaller towns and the countryside. For some ideas in the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg ( www.tourismus-bw.de and www.schloesser-und-gaerten.de for the excellent castles, palaces, medieval monasteries and gardens operated by this German state).

Europe in 2 weeks, sounds a bit like 20 states in 2 weeks, but if you like driving ;) Do rent a decent car, the realistic speeds in the motorways are like 100 mph (160 kmh) so economy versions will have difficulties keeping with the pace.
Amsterdam - (Brussels) - Brugge - Paris - Colmar or Freiburg - Basel or Zurich - Lichtenstein - Salzburg - Prag - Dresden - Köln - Amsterdam. This might somehow be manageable.
If you insist of going all the way down to Italy, I%26#39;d skip Milano, it%26#39;s a big industrial city. In the northern part better are Verona or Venice. If going all the way to Venice, then make a detour via Ljubljana or Bled.

forgot
Get a car with GPS, or buy one with Western European maps (~100-200 €). Makes driving a lot easier, esp in the cities.

As nice as Brussels is, I think I would pick time in Brugge over time in Brussels. I like Wiesbaden too, but I would pick Mainz over Wiesbaden, simply because the cathedral there is so wonderful.
Trains are great, and since you are mainly going to larger cities, there is not a real need for a car.
