Our family are travelling to Wernigerode this April. It is our first time and we have zero idea of where to stay %26amp; what to do. Anyone has any recommendations? We would also like to take a train up to Broken mountain - what do we need to do? Thanks!!

You buy a ticket and hop on the train.

And pack appropriate clothing. Here a video from April 2006 (the amount of snow was for April exceptional)

Check out the website and then contact the tourist information in Wernigerode directly. I found those guys extremely helpful. They will find you the perfect accommodation for your needs and wishes.
The Brocken train is great. Check the weather in the morning before going up, though, if you want the view.
I loved Wernigerode. It is a cute town with remarkable half-timbered houses. It also makes a good base for day trips to the surroundings because it is about in the middle among the most worthwhile destinations on the Northern side of the Harz. Like the other two UNESCO world heritage towns: Quedlinburg and Goslar. Both can be reached easily by train.

Thanks so much BlandineForberg!
