I am an American student arriving at the Frankfurt International Airport. I need to travel to the University of Bonn. Is the bet way to travel via the train? Am I able to get the train at the airport or do I have to travel someplace. Finally, should I purchase the ticket prior to my arrival or purchase the ticket once I arrive at the airport?

There are direct trains from Frankfurt Airport to Bonn.
a) if you fly with Lufthansa to Frankfurt
With Lufthansa you can %26quot;fly%26quot; to Siegburg/Bonn station. There are ICE trains which also have Lufthansa flight numbers. To my knowledge this service does not cost anything extra (but you have to book it) for Lufthansa passengers flying intercontinental to Frankfurt.
b) check if your airline takes part in the Rail%26amp;Fly program. These tickets are a good deal.

c) see if you can get one of the discounted specials. Keep however in mind that these specials are only valid for the booked connection. Thus not without risk if your plane is late. You can book at earliest 89 days in advance. And latest 3 days in advance. But as these specials are limited in numbers the earlier you book the better your chances.
DB timetable

From: FRA
To: Bonn
d) If you like it cheap use regional trains for this trip. Select at the DB timetable %26quot;only local transport%26quot; to enforce this. Best option is to buy 2 tickets for this trip which you can buy both from ticket machines at Frankfurt airport on spot.
1. normal ticket to Mainz: EUR 3,70
2. Rhineland-Palatinate Ticket: EUR 19,00
This ticket covers the part from Mainz to Bonn.
