Lego City?

you mean Legoland Deutschland in Günzburg

South of this is an area called Allgäu. Partly pre-Alpine partly Alps. With many picturesque locations.

e.g. the famous Neuschwanstein Castle is there

Thank you very much for the info and links. One more question,

any recommendation on a 4-5 star hotel which is well positioned between Munich, Legoland and the Allgau region for a 6-7 day stay? Thanks again.

No personal recommendations as I stayed in this region always with families or friends. And apart from this I prefer vacation apartments or farm stays.

I had a wonderful stay last summer in Gunzburg at Hotel Hirsch. Gunzburg is a lovely village and very near LegoLand. I was traveling with my 9 year old son and three year old twins girls. The hotel was perfect. I think you would like it, too. Best, Betsy

Guenzburg is on the Danube (Donau) River. If you go from Munich to Guenzburg, you either go along the Autobahn A-8 or by train, past Augsburg, almost to Ulm.

The Allgaeu alps, which are really very nice, are south of there. I would recommend a hotel in Oberstdorf (the Aspen of Germany), which has some luxury hotels and is right surrounded by the alps. There is cable car going to near the top of the Nebelhorn, which gives you a great view of the mountains.

As for hotels, I always have stayed with friends nearby. But if you enter on the Internet Oberstdorf Allgaeu Hotels, you get a good listing of websites.

There is also a major resort in Fischen, a few km before Oberstdorf,. It is called The Sonnenalp (website www.sonnenalp.de) It is associated with the Sonnenalp resort in Vail, CO.

You can go there or Oberstdorf by train from Guenzburg via Ulm, Memmingen, Immenstadt, Sonthofen, or you can drive there by catching the A-7 Autobahn going south a few km west of Guenzburg.Get off the autobahn at Kempten and follow the road to Immenstadt, Sonthofen, Oberstdorf. The whole trip is about 150km.
