Hi there just wondering about the best area for me to stay in on my first trip to Berlin, hopefully this March? I am wanting to see all the historical sites as a priority but want to be safe to wander around at night...
Any other tips would be gratefully received too!
Cheers

Germany is really safe and you shouldn%26#39;t worry too much. I am sure someone from Berlin will answer you with some good neighborhoods. As to what to see, I will tell you the same as I tell everyone else. Go on a walking tour. There are several companies in Berlin and they are probably all fairly equal in price and quality. Though there are also the %26quot;free%26quot; ones where you are supposed to tip at the end. The only company I have toured with though is Insider Tours. www.insidertours.com You do get to see many of the historical sights and have a good time doing it.

Hi,
I travelled a few times to Berlin as a solo female traveller and I can tell you I always felt very safe all the time during day and night. I%26#39;ve stayed at the Motel One in Alexanderplatz, at the Ibis and the Movenpick in Anhalter Bahnhof, at the Metropolitan Hansa close to Ku%26#39;damm. I would say that any hotel close to a subway station will be a perfect choice, because Berlin is extremely easy and convenient to explore by public transportation.
As a tip, considering this is your first time, I suggest you join the %26quot;original berlin walk%26quot; (see their site www.berlinwalks.com). The %26quot;discover berlin%26quot; tour covers all the main sights and I found it a great way to break the ice with the city. The guides are young, passionate people, and they speak excellent English!

Thanks for your replies... I%26#39;ll check out the hotels and other links asap! The reassurance that Germany is a safe place to go solo (even the undergound) is much appreciated!

I went on my own in June last year, i stayed at the Queens in guntlestrasse. near the Zooliglisher garten train station.
Its a Best western Hotel and it was great for the UBAHN. will stay there again in june this year.
So glad that there are other female travellers that go alone. If you join in the tours then you get to meet people. I did the new berlin tours, some people have moaned about them but i think that they are great. Peter the guide was brilliant.
I love WW2 so i went on the third reich tour and the Sachenhausen tours.
I never felt intimatidated or scared or anything. I did get back to the hotel before/just as it was getting dark tho.

Berlin also struck me as a very safe city, and that point is regularly reinforced by those with more expertise than I who post on this forum. Use common sense obviously, don%26#39;t take silly risks, but I think you won%26#39;t encounter problems.

Thanks all, much appreciated! I love travelling alone but only to places I%26#39;ve checked out as safe first so your replies are really helpful. I know there are no guarantees but its a great starting point :-)

Hi again,
little update as I%26#39;ve just stayed in the recently opened Circus Hotel in Rosenthaler Strasse - I had a wonderful stay, so you might consider it!
My review should be soon published on tripadvisor.
Cheers
