We are travelling to Europe in July/August and have already booked a stay in Munich for only 1 night but are now considering a stay in Salzburg instead.
I am just unsure what the two places have to offer and so am wondering if anyone might have any preferences out of the two. I have always wanted to visit Germany, but dont want to stay in Munich if it is just going to be another city... (please excuse my ignorance if it is much more than this).
So any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thank you

If you have one night only it should be Salzburg. The old town of Salzburg is quite small and in one day you can see at least some of the most important sights.
Obviously Munich as a large city has much more to offer but you%26#39;ll need much more time. In one day I am afraid that Munich would be just another city.

One night means a couple of hours in the afternoon and evening and maybe a few hours (maybe no time at all) the following morning before departure.
This is too short to do Munich justice. It is IMHO also too short for Salzburg, but Salzburg%26#39;s centre is more compact and easier to grasp within a few hours.
I hope you are not planning your whole trip in that speed, otherwise all places you stop at will be %26#39;just another city%26#39; or even %26#39;just another country%26#39;.

If you can only spare one night, cancel Munich and go for Salzburg. Munich is NOT %26quot;just another city%26quot;, but staying only one night will make it seem so.
I lived in Munich and studied for a semester in Salzburg, and they both are worth a visit, but for one night, Salzburg is more compact.

Thank you all soo much for your responses, you have definitely helped us make our decision. Salzburg it is! I really wanted to at least see a little bit of Germany, but now as our holiday plans have changed a little, and are focussing on a different direction, I think we will leave Germany for another time so we can do it justice and explore it properly.
Thank you again

I love Munich, but for only one day choosing between the two, I think you have made the right choice.
For a longer stay, taking in the bavarian city life Munich is better choice than Salzburg for me, I%26#39;d stay in Munich and do Salzburg as a 1 night side trip, or even a day visit.
But for a short visit, Salzburg is delightful and has much more of a WOW factor - you won%26#39;t be disappointed.

If it%26#39;s only one night then I have to agree with Salzburg. Munich needs at least 3 days to get a feel for it.
