Restaurants and sightseeing

We are a group of 8 ladies visiting Dusseldorf on the 1st weekend in February. We stay for 3 nights.

We arrive on Fri latish and intend to go to Schumachers to eat as it is near our hotel.

I am looking for recommendations for Sat night. We like good food and ambiance but NOT at michelin star prices i.e. 100 euro+.I have been recommended Riva.

What are the Monkey restaurants like. I looked at their websites but I could not get a menu or prices.

Has anyone any suggestions for this and also sightseeing. We may go to Cologne on Sunday for the day.

Thank you

Hi

If Schumachers is near you then so is Sila Thai, it%26#39;s very good but you may need to book a table earlier in the day or ask the hotel to do it for you.

Aparently there is a very good Italian near by, it was recommended to us by an Irish couple.

It%26#39;s nice to go up the Rheinturm to see the views across Dusseldorf although if anyone has issues with vertigo etc... they be best waiting down stairs.

An hour long boat trip along the Rhine is really nice and it is possible to have a drink and a snack (chips, sausages) while you travel.

If you are up earlier enough Saturday there is a carrige ride through the old town. Unfortunately it only goes on Saturday at 11.30 and you need to book tickets beforehand in the tourist office on Marktplatz.

We went to do it when we were there but didn%26#39;t realise that you needed to book the tickets beforehand and then there wasn%26#39;t enough when we went to get them and the second time we arrived too late on a Saturday but it looks really good.

Cologne is really nice also and there is a very nice bar called Papa Joes Bier Saloon.

This is a must if only for a rest and a drink, they have this jukebox style thing that is acutally two dummys behind the counter that stand up and play the song you select on an accordian and some other instrument.

There is a lovely restaurant/bar along the river in Cologne called The Lowenbrau and the food is excellant. It%26#39;s my favourite place to eat in Cologne.

Please ignore the grammer in the above I%26#39;ve just read over it, blame too much cake over lunch.

Thank you Breezer. That was very helpful.I have got a recommendation for La Lampada which is Italian but we always seem to go to italians.

Hi from Düsseldorf!

%26gt;I am looking for recommendations for Sat night. We like good food and ambiance but NOT at michelin star prices i.e. 100 euro+.I have been recommended Riva.

If you like italian food and ambience I would rather recommend the following ones:

- La Donna Canone (Italian Cuisine, Hammer Str. - Duesseldorf Media Harbour).

-%26gt; Very good italian cuisine. Reservations minimum 1 week in advance. Website is a little bit old - but the restaurant will be very fine. I really like the place. http://www.ladonnacannone.de/

- Schumacher Brauerei (German Brewery, Oststr.)

-%26gt; typical german/dusseldorf cuisine and self-brewed beer. http://www.schumacher-alt.de/

- Sila Thai (thai food, Bahnstr)

one of the best in town. See http://www.sila-thai.com/

- Michele Italian (Duisburger Street)

--%26gt; for fridays only :) Singing italian Michele. Very good italian food (only one menue avaiable on friday - but very good quality) + live music from michele himself. Reservations for friday minimum 3 weeks in advance.

%26gt; What are the Monkey restaurants like. I looked at their websites but I could not get a menu or prices.

--%26gt; Monkeys West is a high-society hotspot and very expensive. Very good cuisine and wines. Monkeys South is not so pricey - cuisine is okay... Don%26#39;t know if Monkeys East is still closed. I will take a look on monday when I will go to work.

%26gt; Has anyone any suggestions for this and also sightseeing.

--%26gt; Take a look on http://wikitravel.org/en/D%C3%BCsseldorf. There are very good informations for visiting Dusseldorf.

Hi

I%26#39;ve just double checked our receipt from Sila Thai (I keep receipts for addresses in case anyone asks me for recommendations).

Our mains were around €19. Our bill for 3 people which had 7 beers, 1 coke, 3 mains, 2 rice, a cocktail, an irish coffee, came to €95.

The restaurant was packed we were lucky to get a table as people before us were turned away. The staff were friendly and helpful. I%26#39;d go back again, I love thai food and this is some of the best I%26#39;ve ever had.

The exact address is Sila Thai, Inhaberin Nipa Fenk, Bahnstr 76 - 40210 Dusseldord,
