French school in Wetzlar (1953-1956)

About 59 years old, I was in Wetzlar as a young boy in 1950-1956 when the French army (5th then 7th RTM - Regiment de Tirailleurs Marocains) where located in two barracks (Gaffey (Spielburg they said at the bus station) and Lloyds (close to Leitz firm). I went to a school (Ecole française de Wetzlar)located close to my family%26#39;s flat in the French area close to the Gaffey barrack in Mozartstr. (as I remember and if it is still the same street name). I remember that in June or July 1956, all the pupils of the French school and pupils from a German school had to plant a frienship tree to join our two communities (it was planted in the left back of the playground of the school). It was 50 years ago. Is there some souvenirs of this event in Wetzlar. Is there any friend relationship between Wetzlar people and French people? Sorry not to speak German (or very few) even if I had the opportunity to be born in Germany (Lindenberg/Allgaü) in 1947 and lived ten years in this beautiful country (1947-57, Kircheim-Bolanden, Wetzlar and Koblenz), It was not the time to learn foreign languages in a primary school by that time.

There is a website in Germany www.stayfriends.de where you can register for free in order to find former class mates. I couldn%26#39;t find the school you went to but may be you can write an email to %26#39;stayfriends%26#39; and ask them to include your school in the list so that you can register there.

There is the French-German society of Wetzlar, a private initiative founded in 1955 and still very active today. You may contact them on their homepage www.dfg-wetzlar.de. Although you may not speak German, I am sure these people speak your language and are ready to give you answers to your questions. Wetzlar%26#39;s partner town in France is Avignon, there are many initiatives between these two towns on many levels, sports, language, schools etc. Hope this helps - good luck!
