As the previous poster, I also have a long layover @ Frankfurt. I know many city airports have an organized guided tour of the city. Does this one, or must I venture out on my own? A little hesitant to go off on my own, as I will be traveling alone. Thanks in advance for any responses....

I have never heard of it, but there is no reason to hesitate. Just take the next train (S8 or S9) into Frankfurt, get out at Konstablerwache and you are right in the city center.
Better still, take a train to Mainz which is smaller and in some regards more appealing. Frankfurt is a very modern city - the only city in Germany with a real skyline. Probably not what Americans look for in European cities...

Frankfurt city is really easy to get to. It is a quick S-bahn trip away, 11 minutes or so. There is a walking tour of Frankfurt, look on www.insidertours.com for more info, or here on Trip Advisor.
I think there is some kind of bus tour thing leaving from the airport, but I have never heard of anyone taking it, to be honest.
Frankfurt is very safe, so you dont have to worry about that. How long is your layover?

The layover is for a little over 7 hours.
I am not so much afraid for my safety as I am that I will get lost and have language barrier problems. I encountered that problem on my last visit through the airport there... AND I am so TERRIBLE with directions!
I would just feel better putting myself in the hands of a bus driver or tour operator who knows the city and can show me around and take me straight back on time, for a reasonable fare.
If not, the airport shops and casino will give me something to do. I just have a feeling that may turn out to be much more expensive than a tour.
