Hi,
I am a 25 year chap who is driving down to the alps to meet some friends in Verbier and Meribel at the end of feb. We are likely to travel direct on the friday night after work then return on the thursday from the alps. Leaving thursday night to sunday night when we board our ferry to the uk.
Has anyone got any great ideas? i will travelling with a friend.
We are thrill seekers but would enjoy a trip round a vineyard or a major city too!
Plant any ideas below!!
Thanks
Henry

Of course, Germany is not on a direct route back from these two places. If you really want to visit Germany, consider Stuttgart ( www.stuttgart-tourist.de ) which is Germany%26#39;s 6th largest city. The Mercedes Benz Museum is excellent, and the new Porsche Museum just opened less than a week ago to large crowds, Stuttgart is after all where the automobile was invented. Stuttgart is one of the very few large cities in Europe to have extensive vineyards within the city ( www.stuttgarter-weinwanderweg.de ), and there are many wineries, Weinstube%26#39;s and Besenwirtschaft%26#39;s, although February isn%26#39;t exactly a pleasant time to visit the vineyards, anywhere.
You can swim indoors or outdoors at the three large mineral baths associated with western Europe%26#39;s largest mineral waters, and at the Leuze one in bubbly carbonated water. Wilhelma ( www.wilhelma.de ) is Europe%26#39;s largest combination zoo-botanical garden, and close to Stuttgart is the excellent well preserved medieval center of Esslingen ( www.esslingen.de ) as well as Germany%26#39;s largest perfectly preserved Baroque palace (in www.schloesser-und-gaerten.de ) at Ludwigsburg ( www.ludwigsburg.de ), the palace tour the best I%26#39;ve been on in Europe.
The nearby old college town of Tuebingen ( www.tuebingen.de ) with its half-timbered houses, hilly cobblestone streets, interesting shops and one of Europe%26#39;s oldest universities is another enjoyable place to visit. The nearby town of Metzingen ( www.metzingen.de ) has Germany%26#39;s most factory outlet centers for some inexpensive shopping.

I;m not sureb bout Verbier, but I know believe is in the French Alps. Going toward Calais, one could visit Strasbourg or Colmar in Alsace in France, or go into Germany and visit Freiburg, just across the border. All three are interesting cities, with vineyards (and great white wines to sample) nearby.

Sorry about that first sentence: it should read:
%26quot;I%26#39;m not sure about Verbier, but I know Meribel is in the French Alps.%26quot;
BTW, I thought the three cities mentioned wouldn%26#39;t be too far from where you are skiing, but still in the general direction of the route back to Calais.
(I%26#39;ve since googled Verbier--Switzerland!)
