Hi. I am thinking of visiting the area in March, using Koblenz as a base for sightseeing. I have read that the main tourist season does not really get under way until around Easter, which falls around the middle of April next year.
From your experiences, will there still be enough to see %26amp; do in March to put in my time (planning on stay of 4 nights).
Would be great if I could get smoe idea of what the %26quot;must see%26quot; places are - on the proviso that they can be reached by public transport.
Thanks

Hi Gazzetta,
Just back from a week in Koblenz. Nice small city. A bit quiet if you are a party animal. It has got a very good choice of hotels, restaurants and bars and very good value too. Decent shopping and all within walking distance. You have the two rivers and the boats which run trips in all directions. We used the local bus service to visit Boppard and Remagen. Both very pretty towns and Remagen has the bridge site to visit.
Koblenz has a busy train station with plenty of choices of desinations if you wish to travel further than the local busues. I liked it enough to have already booked a return trip in November. Well worth a short visit.
Have fun.

Koblenz is a good place for a few days in March. Daytrips to Remagen%26#39;s WW II museum - www.bruecke-remagen.de - to Trier, to Cologne, to Cochem, and to Braubach for a tour of Marksburg Castle - www.marksburg.de - would make a stay of 4 days there worthwhile. All are reachable by train - look into the Rheinland-Pfalz ticket (daypass which gets you as far north as Bonn on the way to Cologne and to all the other cities mentioned above) for inexpensive transport. Koblenz is the train hub for the region, and coming and going is quite simple from there.

Good morning from Koblenz!
As the others say: The region is absolutely worth a visit in March if you do not only focus on outdoor activities. Some more tips for good and bad weather:
- Winningen on the Moselle, only a few kilometres from Koblenz, can be reached by bus or train. A very beautiful wine-growing village situated in the middle of the steep, terraced vineyards typical for the %26quot;Terrassen-Mosel%26quot;. Visit the Vinothek to learn more about the local wines www.vinothek-winningen.de (opened on Friday %26amp; Saturday 4-7 pm, on Sunday 3-6 pm).
- The famous castle Burg Eltz (www.burg-eltz.de) opens on March 21.
- Not far from Koblenz one of the most impressive Rhine castles (besides the Marksburg and completely different) is situated: Schloss Stolzenfels.
- At Koblenz-Güls is situated the comedy/theatre %26quot;Café-Hahn%26quot; with a very attractive programme (www.cafehahn.de).
- More information about KOblenz can be found in English at http://www.koblenz-touristik.de/en.
- More information about the whole region at www.romantic-germany.info.
Have a great trip!

Thanks very much everyone.
Some very useful hints and tips there which I will take on board.
I have booked my flight and hotel and am now really looking forward to visiting at the end of March 2009.
Tschüss!

Great information in this thread, thanks to all the people who posted it for us all to read!
I will be in Koblenz on 12 March 2009 and was wondering if there would be any of the boat tours running on this day. From my internet research, it doesnt appear that they operate in early March, but I was hoping that someone that was an expert on the town could verify this for me.
Thanks in advance,
- Dan

Hi Dan,
There appears to be some activity on the river in March. How about this?

Can I get a bus or train from Frankfurt Hahn airport direct to Koblenz? How long does the journey take?
|||
Hi BoxtheFOX,
You can get a bus from Hahn airport to Koblenz.
Up to date timetable is on www.rmv-bus.de
Trip take 1 hour 10 min and cost just over 13 euro one way. You get the bus when you exit the airport, turn right and go a about 200 yards pass the car park to the bus stops. Pay the driver for the ticket.
I have used this service a couple of times last year. On both occasions the bus leaves Hahn airport just before our plane arrived from Dublin. This means we had to hang around the airport for 2 hours for the next bus. Also limited bus service back to the airport to come home. Check your flight times and see if the bus timetable suites.
Koblenz is a nice small city. Not a party town, but it has plenty of good bars, restaurants and shops. Good location for visiting other towns. We spent a week during the summer and have been back for a weekend since. Nice place and cheap too.
Hahn airports website has a link to transport to/from the airport. Click on any of the cities or towns to get the bus information and timetable.
If you require any other help, just ask.
Regards,
Supervanman.

Thanks for that. Can%26#39;t understand why the bus leaves just as the Dublin flight arrives though. Not very helpful!

Hello Again,
The bus company is a local company and has nothing to do with Ryanair. So it is not at the airport to link up with any one plane it is just offering a local service.
The airport is not a bad size and has a few bars and places to get something to eat.
Regards,
Supervanman.
