General info about Gorlitz

My mother was born in Gorlitz so I%26#39;m hoping to take a holiday there this year particularly to trace her roots. As she was brought to the UK as a baby and adopted it has been very difficult to trace anything. Although i do have a name and address in Gorlitz, which my mother left for me when she died ,the local archives and church archives have drawn a blank. Can anyone help me please? Do you know of anyone based there who could help investigate once I was there? Also, can you recommend a hotel and reasonable airline? Would really appreciate advice.

Was this 3rd Reich/WWII related?

Görlitz is definitely worth a visit. Even without any personal relations.

Closest airport is Dresden. But flying to Berlin is also an option.

Görlitz before the war was a city on both sides of the river Neisse. The river became the border between Germmany and Poland in 1945 so in fact two towns now involved, Görlitz and Zgorzelec.

There is a bridge again linking the two. And yes, Görlitz is beautiful, well worth a visit. Look for a hotel in the Old Town, to be central and because it%26#39;s so pretty.

My mother was born in 1909 so it isn%26#39;t World War 2 related. The street where she was born is almost alongside the river - Am Hirrschwinkel- I%26#39;ve located it on google.
