Finding your reserved seat in the train

I%26#39;ve booked a train ticket from Hamburg central station to Berlin with seat reserved. I%26#39;ve never been to the station before but I would imagine it%26#39;s fairly large. I just wonder if there is any way you know on the platform that the car of your seat reserved is located?

There is. Here is a detailed explanation with photos that I have written on my VirtualTourist page: members.virtualtourist.com/m/f86bd/b/9/

Scroll down to the 4th tip, entitled %26quot;Train Travel: How To Find Your Reserved Seat?%26quot;

Once you get to the correct platform, look for the board that displays the trains and the order of the carriages.

The board will have a pictorial representation of the train and the cars will be numbered (that number will be on your reservation look for %26quot;Wagen%26quot;). At the top are the letters A, B, C etc that correspond to the large letters posted along the platform. Locate your car number, trace up to the correct letter and then go to that part of the platform.

If you have heavy luggage, when the train pulls up, keep an eye out for the easiest door to your seat. On the ICE trains, there is a sign that indicates which seats are nearby that particular door. If you get the right one, it saves stumbling down the aisle with your luggage.

If all else fails, ask one of the German Rail employees that are likely to be on the platform. I%26#39;ve always been treated very well by them.

The Hamburg train station is big, but fairly well laid out. Elevated at both ends and then you take stairs down to the tracks. If all else fails , just ask someone young. Damn good chance they will know a bit of english.

Hello,

Enjoy your reserved seat, it was great when I did the trip. Not having the hassle of fighting for a seat is well worth while.

Have a great trip
