My husband and I plan on either flying into Amsterdam and taking the night train to Munich and then traveling around Germany and Austria.
or skipping Amsterdam and flying straight into Munich
My question is do I buy a eurorail pass for Germany and Austria or just pay as we go. We are traveling in Sept and Oct for 2 weeks. What is the difference between 1st, 2nd class, Economy, comfort, comfort flex, freedom???? I want to set up our itinery ahead of time with hotels etc.., but can%26#39;t do this if I don%26#39;t know train schedules. Are there numerous trains everyday to the main cities? Can we just wing it and we will be able to find a place to stay with no problem.

Train passes are not usually worth it unless you are going to do a lot of long distance travelling.
Train times anywhere in Europe and fares for Germany can be found at www.bahn.de which is the German raiilways website.
2nd class is usually adequate - 1st gives a bit more space.
In Germany there is usually at least one train an hour between major cities and for teh vast majority of trains you don%26#39;t have to book in advance - reserving a seat is a separate transaction from buying a ticket to travel. If you can fix your train times then there are cheaper fares that are limited to a particular train.
Also look at seat61.com
You can usually only book 90 days in advance but the times don%26#39;t usually change much so look at dates in March for typical times.
