a few hours in Frankfurt?

We are doing an independent trip through Eastern Europe. I am trying to book airfare. One option that comes up has us arriving in Frankfurt at 6 p.m. and not leaving til 1 p.m. the next day. I don%26#39;t know anything about Frankfurt. Would it be of any use to stay in the central area overnight? How long would it take to get there from the airport? Obviously we would just have a few hours in the evening and probably an early hour the next day: I%26#39;m guessing we would have to leave for the airport around 9 a.m. What do you think?

Frankfurt city is easily reached with the subway and takes about 11 min. There are plenty of reasonably priced hotels right next to the Hauptbahnhof (main train station). Many of the historic sites are very nearby and within easy, 10 min. walking distance. Depending on what time of year it is, you may have plenty of daylight to walk around and see this great city. It is pretty at night too, especially walking along the river park or down by the Alte Oper house, or near the cathedral. Lots of nice restaurants to choose from too.

You only need to be back at the airport 3 hours ahead of departure, so you could catch a subway going back to the airport at 0945 and be there by 10, which should be quite early enough.

wow. you are very encouraging! Maybe we%26#39;re not crazy to even consider it! The subway makes it very doable, especially since we are determined to travel extremely light, so won%26#39;t be lugging 40 lbs of luggage. thanks.

Any particular hotel suggestions, or an idea of price range? by the way, this would be about May 31.

I like using HRS.com to find hotels as they usually offer the best prices. Doing that, I would recommend Hotel Monopol which would be 78 € for the night for a double and includes breakfast and free mini-bar and they always have cake and coffee and juice in the lobby. The hotel is right outside the south exit of the train station, so it is really easy to get to. I have recommended this hotel to quite a few people and they have all enjoyed it. It has this lovely, old world charm about it and is one of Frankfurts oldest hotels.

If you want to pay less than that though, there are plenty to choose from.

well, that sounds quite reasonable for the location. thanks again.
