We%26#39;re thinking of buying two second class round trip tickets from Munich to Salzburg before we leave the U.S. We%26#39;ve been quoted a total of $280.00USD. Would it be less expensive to buy them when we get to Germany? It seems that Rail Europe is tacking on a lot of fees, etc.

2. A one day return ticket (called Freizeitticket München-Salzburg) is EUR 29,00 per person.
3. If you stick to regional trains you can use the Bavaria Ticket. A day ticket for 2-5 persons traveling together for EUR 28,00. Validity

Sa,Su: from midnight till 3am next day

From: Munich
To: Salzburg
If you like to use the Bavaria Ticket select as means of transport %26quot;only local transport%26quot;.
Besides regional trains the Bavaria Ticket does also cover S-Bahn, U-Bahn, trams and buses in Munich.
You can buy all these tickets from ticket machines in Munich on spot. 2. and 3. are more expensive if you go to the counter.

DON%26#39;T buy your tickets in the US. As abalada points out, it is much cheaper to buy them at the Munich station. While, when buying the Bayernkarte (Bavaria Ticket) limits you to Regio trains, the time difference for the trip between Regios and the faster IC, EC, etc. trains on that short ( a bit over 2 hrs) trip is just a matter of 15 or so minutes. Eeven if you were to stay overnight in Salzburg, one Bayetrnkarte for the two of you for each the outbound and the inbound trip is a great deal.

Rail Europe seems to always to be much more expensive. You are paying for the convenience. Also, you are stuck if your plans change...Have a nice trip--

The walk-up, buy a ticket, and board the next train round-trip fare for travel between Munich Hbf and Salzburg Hbf is 94 € in 1st class or 58 € in 2nd class each.
