We will be in Berlin next weekend , and as we are notorious for getting lost in Cities often have to stop a taxi just to get us back to our hotel etc !
If we are looking for a taxi in Berlin , are they at designated ranks only , or can you stop them in the street ?
We will try to manage the S and U bahn if our map reading is up to it !
Thanks !

You can do both, as far as I am aware. There are ranks at several places in the city, but equally I have seen people flagging them down on the street. As long as the yellow sign is lit up, it should be fair game.

probably a bit late as you are already here, but nevertheless:
as sessiagh already said, you can do both. You could even call a cab for free from the designated ranks if there should not be one waiting.
But if you have the choice, definitely just wave for them at the side of the street because this way the taxi rate is cheaper I believe.

I meant: as darren mcc already said...

Thanks all = We leave for Berlin this Wednesday , looking forward to it and hope we won%26#39;t get too lost !

You won%26#39;t need taxis in Berlin as the train systems are wonderful! All you need is a good metro map and a 3 day ticked and hop on and off whenever!
