Romantische strasse and nearby

Hallo, I%26#39;m planning a trip for next august in Romantische strasse. I have not so much time, only 7 10 days. I%26#39;ll travel by car with my husband. I have yet seen the area, about 20 years ago, my husband doesn%26#39;t. I%26#39;d like he%26#39;ll love it like me. Because in 20 years things change I need your help.

First stop will be Fussen and nearby; from here I%26#39;ll start.

About hotels, I heve already seen TA pages but if you have any more suggestion, I%26#39;ll appreciate. Same for restaurant (I like stube and local food).

And now the question.

Do you think it%26#39;s better book hotels in advance or I may find anywhere acomodation? I%26#39;ll be there during first week of august.

Are there many torists and long line? Have I to book in advance visit in castles and museums?

Are there problems about thieves? I%26#39;d like to visist something on the road and I%26#39;ll have to leave my baggage in car. Usually I leave my baggage in hotel, but this time I have not so much time.

On my way back I%26#39;ll visit Dachau and Herrenchiemsee. The castle is worth of a visit?

Thank you, any suggestion will be very appreciate. Sorry for my bad english.

August is of course main tourist season. Thus around Füssen (i.e. Bavarian Alps) and for Rothenburg it will better to book in advance. This can done be rather risk less (favorite canceling conditions) with

For other places along the Romantic Road booking in advance is no must. For cities anyway not, as August (school holidays in Bavaria) is there off season if it comes to hotels.

You have to expect lines at Neuschwanstein Castle. This is also pretty much the only place you can book in advance. Less important if you go there in the morning. But when going during the day booking avoids the risk that the next n tours are already sold out when you arrive.

Not really a big problem. But at least don%26#39;t leave valuable items (e.g. camera) back visible from the outside.

Yes. Interior is more interesting than at Neuschwanstein. Herrenchiemsee is as a copy (of Versailles) in some aspects better than the original.

For Fuessen and Rothenburg (Romantische Strasse), I would make reservations. August is the peak travel month for overseas as well as visitors from the Continent. While staying in Rotheburg has great appeal, especially in the evening (when the hordes of day vistors are gone) we have stayed in nearby Bad Windsheim and Ansbach. Both have a choice of hotels, generally less expensive than in Rothenburg. You could also stay in Dinkelsbuehl (I prefer it to Rothenburg) and take a day trip to R.

Neuschwanstein is bound to have long lines for the castle tour. You should make a reservation. But also walk a bit around the castle to the Marienbruecke and the Alpsee, for tye great views. Nearby Linderhof likely has fewer lines. As I reacall, you are not required to take a tour there, but %26quot;do your own thing%26quot;, although taht may have changed since I was there last. In any event, Linderhof is quite unique, different than Neuschwanstein and Herrenchiemsee

If your car has a trunk (or boot, in the UK), you should be OK, as long as you put everything inside of the car out of sight.

If a sight has a pay parking lot with attendants it should be especially safe.

For Dachau: If you are staying in Munich, you may want to take the S-Bahn train.

Herrenchiemsee is well worth a visit. The location on the island, the boat ride to the island and the nearby Fraueninsel (get off there and have a coffee or a glass of thee nun%26#39;s Chiemsee Likoer!!)as well as the park with its flowers and fountains are great. Even if you don%26#39;t take the tour inside the Schloss, there%26#39;s a lot to see. There is also a self-serve restaurant in the Schloss, and a very nice hotel/restaurant at the island dock where you get off the boat.

One more suggestion: When in Fuessen, take the B-17 road north to Steingaden. there turn right and follow the signs to the Wieskirche. It is a basilica-type baroque church, in the meadow, built by the Zimmermann brothers, who learned their craft in Ialy.

You can either return from there to Fuessen, or cut across to the A-7 Autobahn that takes you north to the Romatic Highway. Keep in mind, there is really not much romance in the road itself, it is a normal highway. It%26#39;s claim to fame are the cities it connects.

Thank you for your kindness and fast reply. I%26#39;m sure that with your suggestion my trip will be the best. Thank you from my husband also.
