Hi - was wondering, do Hotels have sales in January? Due to everyone being skint? Any one any tips? Looking for a great hotel at discounted rates for the end of January in Berlin.

Berlin hotels are generally better value than hotels in other capitals in any case. You can compare prices easily by looking on venere.com.
With some chains the rate is better if you book early (like budget airlines), with others you get a much better good rate if you pre-pay (Mercure does this, check out accor.com, and I%26#39;ve seen it for Marriott in Vienna, maybe in Berlin too).
Obviously if you pre-pay you lose it all if you can%26#39;t go in the end.

Why should hotels in a big city have sales in January?
|||
And why shouldn%26#39;t they?
As the original poster said it%26#39;s tough times, everyone is looking for a good deal.
Also hotels must be finding it hard too, wouldn%26#39;t it be better for them to offer rooms at good rates out of season (ie January), and make some money rather than have an empty room making nothing?
|||
In a big city like Berlin, which is mostly visited for culture or business reasons, there is no off-season in January.
|||
Seasonal prices exist in Germany only at seaside or Alpine tourist resorts. Not in the big cities.
There are however event driven peak times, e.g. during the Berlinale, ITB, IAAF World Championships in Athletics 2009 and so on. Which are better avoided if you%26#39;re not interested in the event itself and prefer lower prices.
to find good deals you may have a look at
http://www.hrs.com
visitberlin.de/english/…e_sb_unterkunft.php
e.g. double room 23.-25. Jan. 2009 for EUR 70 or less
checked with HRS
Edinburgh: 6 hits
Berlin: 116 hits
Maybe in this price range not exactly great hotels and not that central. But you%26#39;ll get the overall picture.

If you are willing to take a chance,I just booked a hotel with Easy Jet on one of their Hotel Confidentials for 4 nights inc breakfast for £124! You don%26#39;t know what it is until you get your cbooking confirmation.Turned out to be the Best Western Hotel City Ost, and on their site for 4 nights it is £178 and no breakfast.
Guess who is chuffed. However I checked a few hotels a month ago, and the prices at the moment are going up,not down ,so I would book ASAP.
