We are flying into Frankfurt and flying out of Munich 10 days later. We are wanting to spend about 5 days in Prague.
There are two of us traveling and it seems quite expensive for us to take the train. And we have a lot of luggage as well.
We have looked into renting a car and it seems to be about the same price as one person taking the train.
Is the driving going to be very difficult?
Driving on the Autobahn looks easy but I am not sure about Prague?
Will the cost of fuel and road tolls cancel out the savings?
Thanks

A car is in Prague completely useless.
And first you have to find a rental company which let%26#39;s you drive with one of their cars into the Czech Republic at all.
For Czech autobahns you need a vignette (toll sticker). However no budget killer.
Fuel %26quot;Super%26quot; (95 octane) is currently ~ EUR 1,18 per liter.
You don%26#39;t say when you will make your trip. If there is enough time left you can find specials for the trains. You can book however at earliest 89 days in advance.
Frankfurt Airport - Dresden (a recommended stopover) from EUR 29,00
Dresden - Prague from EUR 19,00
Munich - Frankfurt Airport from EUR 29,00

For Prague to Munich buy 2 tickets
1. a Bavaria-Bohemia Ticket
EUR 33,00 for 2-5 persons traveling together
You have to buy this ticket already in Germany for the planned travel day Prague to Munich
2. normal tickets from Prague to Plzen/Pilsen
CZK 145,00 (~ EUR 5,20) per person
minus group discount
www.cd.cz/static/eng/pricereduction2.htm
Buy these tickets at the counter in Prague. Use the ticket bought in step 1 from Plzen/Pilsen on.
There are direct trains for any of these 4 city routes.

Thanks a lot for your help.
We will look into those train tickets. Prosit.
We have a lot of luggage. What is the luggage compartment like? Will our bags be safe (relatively)?
Can we store bags at the train stations?
Are there large lockers?
Thanks
|||
We are checking on the internet for those cheap train tickets and some of the legs of the trip are unavailable at the Saver Fare.
Is this just on the internet? Can we get cheaper tickets if we are buying directly from the train station?
Also we are not sure what to enter in the search for the Bavaria to Bohemia trip (German border to Munich?). We get many possibilities to choose from.
We are traveling the first week of Feb.
Thanks

There are no last-minute discounts on the train. If the saver fares are sold out now, they are gone. A week or ten days in advance is generally very late for discount tickets. The contingent of discount tickets per train is low and sells out quickly.
What luggage compartment? You keep your luggage with you and store it on the luggage rack above your seats.

still having problems getting our tickets from prague to munich.
largely due to one of the bahn websites cant be translated to english.
buying the bayern ticket
can anyone tell us the best station to take a train to from prague, where we will then use our bayern ticket to get to munich.
is the bayern ticket the same as the bavaria to bohemia ticket.
is the bayern ticket a day rail pass or a day ticket.
everyone we have talked to at rail stations and hostels have no idea what we are talking about.
the rail people are trying to get us to spend 121 euro for two tickets from prague to munich.
thanks a lot for all the help we are getting from this site. if only one of you worked at the train station.
prosit

%26gt; still having problems getting our tickets from prague to munich.
Get them locally. Not online.
%26gt; is the bayern ticket the same as the bavaria to bohemia ticket.
Bayern Ticket = Bavaria Ticket
coming from Prague you could use this ticket from Furth im Wald (first stop in Bavaria) on.
Bayern-Böhmen Ticket = Bavaria-Bohemia Ticket
You could use this ticket from Plzen/Pilsen on.
%26gt; is the bayern ticket a day rail pass or a day ticket.
Validity of both tickets is
Mo-Fr: from 9am till 3am next day
Sa,Su: from midnight till 3am next day
It%26#39;s more a kind of a rail pass at it covers a whole area (Bavaria or Bavaria+Bohemia), not just a certain route.
The Bavaria-Bohemia Ticket is the better deal for you. Buy it in Germany (!!!) for the date you plan to make the trip from Prague to Munich. You can buy it from ticket machines or at the counter. Latter is EUR 2,00 more expensive. In both cases you can pay by credit card.
Buy the tickets from Prague to Plzen/Pilsen at the counter in Prague.
You don%26#39;t have to do anything in Plzen/Pilsen. Just stay seated.
