Baden-Baden sightseeing

We have a day in Baden-Baden...what would you recommend doing and seeing? We like history, Museums,

but also scenery. Another question.. Do you need a car to visit the black forest? What is there to see there?

Friedrichsbad is undoubtedly the ultimate spa experience in Baden-Baden. But it could be a culture shock for the average US citizen.

No. Baden-Baden itself is already in the Black Forest, at least the foot of it. Baden-Baden city buses take you up to the heights of the Black Forest, e.g. Badener Höhe or lake Mummelsee. But this would be too much if squeezed into one day.

For one day: explore the Kurpark and Kurhaus area. Walk Lichtenthaler Allee. Stroll along the shopping streets in the old town and also the narrow lanes further up the hill which have really romantic spots. Enjoy a view of the town from the terrace next to Neues Schloss (New Palace).

For scenery and a wider landscape view, either go up Merkurberg by funicular, or if you don%26#39;t mind a little uphill hike in the forest (45 minutes one way), castle ruin Hohenbaden.

Wear comfortable shoes because all this involves quite a bit of walking.
