Most convenient area to stay for ski-ing in Garmisch area?

Hi,

We%26#39;re looking for accommodation around Garmisch for a weekend ski trip in early March.

Where would be the best area to stay for convenience for the lifts and runs?

It looks as though Garmisch town itself would require a trip on the ski bus to the ski areas - is that correct?

Hausberg looks promising because of the long Kochelberg run back to the village, but we are also wondering about Grainau.

Does anyone know if the various ski areas are linked, or does one have to go back to the valley floor to ski the different areas?

And any recommendations for medium-priced accommodation? Either hotel or apartment.

Thanks.

Hi cardiffholidayer,

Sorry I don%26#39;t have a specific recommendation for you as I haven%26#39;t yet done any skiing here or stayed in a hotel in town.

But I can tell you that you are not limited to the ski bus. The city bus line #2 runs through town and ends at the Kreuzeck cable car lift -- here%26#39;s a link:

gemeindewerke-garmisch-partenkirchen.de/cms/…

then just click on the pdf for line #2. It costs 1.40 p/p for each ride (seven-ride tickets or seven-day tickets are also available). Every day, I see lots of folks on the bus in their ski boots %26amp; carrying skis, so it%26#39;s really not unusual.

So, you should be free to find a hotel pretty much anywhere in town -- click on the line map to see the route of the bus.

On the other hand, no city busses that I know of goes right to the Hausberg lifts.

Grainau of course would be a great option as you can catch the Zugspitzbahn right in town. I did stay in a Ferienwohnung in Grainau for six weeks when I first arrived and can recommend that agency highly if you decide to stay there.

Have fun!

The Kreuzeck is a great ski area.
