Hello, my husband is getting to take leave from Iraq in March. We are wanting to meet in Germany, and then tour around Italy, Paris, and other places that are of interest and suggestion. We have 11 days and are not for sure about travel in Europe. Is it recommended to have a travel agency make plans and have reservations for hotels, or can you just spontaneously go and get a hotel, etc? Any help or advice/suggestions are VERY appreciated, as time is approaching fast and we don%26#39;t want to be out of luck.
Thanks so much!

Ok, you want to tour 3 countries in 11 days. That is less than 4 days per country. Kind of hectic and your husband may want to have a more relaxing R%26amp;R without so much moving around. Perhaps pick 2 cities or 3 at the most. Travel time should be considered too, how long does it take to go from Munich to Rome for example or to Paris. Italy sounds a bit out of the way for only 11 days. The Munich area is beautiful, the Alps are near, and the scenery will be peaceful and refreshing after time in the desert. Make this your base and do some small day trips, then start making your way north. Perhaps a trip down the Rhine, visiting some of the beautiful little towns along the way. From Köln you can easily take the train to Paris and spend some lovely days there.

I agree with Bornheimgirl...I assume your husband is arriving near Frankfurt. How about starting in a nice hotel, maybe in Cochem on the Rhein, which gives you a chance to sightsee in some lovely villages and is also a small city with nice walks along the river (if you wish--or just relax), then on to Koeln (Cologne) for a fast train direct to Paris.
I know this is the Germany forum, but Paris has the wow factor for a reunion with your husband. IMHO--Spend three days on the Rhein Valley--post again if you do this and you%26#39;ll get lots of suggestions for nice hotels and guesthouses. Then a week in Paris--again, lots of advice from France forum available. Return direct to Frankfurt direct from your week in Paris. Leave out Italy for another time.
I wish you a wonderful reunion with your DH!

Opps. My sentence about returning to Frsnkfurt should read:
Return on a fast train direct to Frankfurt from Paris.

oops...one more correction--Koblenz on the Rhein. not Cochem, which is on the Mosel. Sorry.

Why take the time to travel when you can stay at the MWR hotel resort in Garmisch it called Edelweiss Lodge and Resort. It has a web site It has several tours that you can take and not have the hassel finding room and trains and food they have every thing you could want . Garmisch/Partenkirchen also has alot to see and do.My wife and I stayed there three years agoand had a wounderful time CHECK OUT THE WEB SITE.

Don%26#39;t you think Garmish might be a little cold in March? Paris might be, too. Italy would be warmer. You could get a Eurail pass and simply go where the spirit moves . . .

First, March, in my opinion, is one of the worst months to visit any place in Europe, the weather can%26#39;t decide to be either early Spring or late Winter.
This isn%26#39;t Paris or Italy, but you can inexpensively rent an apartment for a week in one of the towers in the old town wall of Echternach, Luxembourg. Google for their tourist website, as the tourist office rents these apartments. Absolutely the best place I%26#39;ve stayed in Europe. You have the whole tower to yourself. Our apartment was in Tower 3. Downstairs was the kitchen dining area, the next floor up the master bedroom, the next up another bedroom and bath, and the next up the livingroom with TV, stereo, and the only access to the town walls on either side. We enjoyed the view toward Germany drinking our coffee there in the morning. Then there is also a loft with king-size bed.
The apartments are close to the pedestrian zone and the ancient abbey. You have easy access to nearby areas of Luxembourg, Germany across the river, France, and Belgium giving you easily enough to fill a week. I think that it would be a wonderful place for a reunion with a loved one.

Thanks to all for your advice and ideas. Looks like I better get to viewing websites.
